NCFE L1 and L2 Certificate in Food and Cookery Skills

Overview
These qualifications are designed for learners with an interest in food and cookery and a career in the food production industries. They will provide learners with experience of using different cooking skills and food production methods. These courses will enable learners to use these skills within further education or apprenticeships. These courses will also be supported by offering suitable students the opportunity to acquire a L2 food handling/hygiene certificate which is recognised by the food industry and improves a student’s employability prospects.

How will I learn?
Students will form part of the catering team at Woodpecker Court, taking a daily active role in the provision of breakfast and lunch for the whole site as well as catering for other events. There will also be the opportunity to become involved with Woodpecker Court’s developing Community Café. This will be supported by taught classroom sessions which deliver the essential theory which underpins safe kitchen practice.

What will i learn
Learners will be required to successfully complete four (4) graded mandatory units:

Unit 1 Preparing to cook

Unit 2 Understanding food

Unit 3 Exploring balanced diets

Unit 4 Plan and produce dishes in response to a brief

How will it be delivered
These qualifications aim to develop or confirm the skills and knowledge of those who aspire to be employed in hospitality roles including chef, school cook or chefs’ kitchen/food assistants.
The objectives of this qualification are to help learners to:

Prepare to work in the hospitality industry and undertake as range of duties.

Consolidate their existing skills and knowledge within a food production/cooking role
